We, at BlackCommentator.com, without reservation or qualification, condemn the Israeli attack on the humanitarian flotilla that was bound for Gaza.

The act by the Israelis was an open act of piracy. It resulted in the death of a number of people and interfered with the flotillas effort to get humanitarian supplies to Gaza.

The Israeli statements, beginning with their alleged warning to the flotilla, have been nothing but disingenuous.  Despite all evidence to the contrary, the Israeli government claims that there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza that would justify the efforts of this flotilla.  Yet United Nations personnel on the ground, not to mention the Goldstone Report on the Israeli attack on Gaza in 2008-9, detail the extent of the humanitarian crisis.  The Israelis, with the de facto cooperation of the Egyptian government, have done everything that they could to strangle Gaza, irrespective of the cost in human lives and suffering.  Their brazen assault on the humanitarian flotilla is simply another criminal act in a long line of criminal acts.

It is essential that people of good will not allow the Israelis to get away with this behavior.  Demonstrations are being called around the world to protest the actions by the Israelis. The Obama administration, unfortunately, has so far only expressed its so-called concerns regarding the loss of life.  We are long past the point of concerns.  The Israeli blockade of Gaza represents the deranged actions by a war-mongering Israeli government.  Far from being the gem of democracy in the Middle East that they wish to project themselves as being, the Israeli government is proving itself to be a rogue state that believes that any actions that they take are justifiable and can fly in the face of international law and precedent.

The Israeli government's actions cannot go unpunished.
