My pops died years ago. I have a micro circle of friends, a pretty good list of acquaintances who I honestly don’t regard as friends - there’s a difference. I know and am known to a lot of people, if you get my drift, but beyond my better half, who’s stood with me through hell and high waters, I don’t really have anyone “disconnected but connected” who will give it to me straight, no chaser, minus their own personal biases.

However, I’ve been told I was losing, or rather had lost my “fire,” the fire my pops lit years ago, and I’ve had all my life when it comes to America and the plight of Black folks. At times, I now sound like the accommodating House Negro Malcolm despised.

I loved Malcolm, Stokley, Frederick, Huey P., Bobby, Angela, and Toussaint L Overture. Their approach to the common problem we all had - White oppression, exploitation, and discrimination - made absolute sense to me. Their answers and replies to “the problem” seemed logical, honorable, and noble. In nutshell, I’ll negotiate all day to achieve a solution to the problem, but if you put your hands on me, I’m obligated to defend myself, by any means required.

I am a Man!

However, after a few decades in the game of life, having the best woman in the world as my wife, two beautiful kids, and g-kids, I’ve softened. My son tells me like melting ice cream on the black pavement in Death Valley in July. Now, I just wanna’ sing Kumbaya my lord, Kumbaya.

He’s right.

I’m gonna’ try to reignite my fire and rekindle my passion, but I just don’t have much faith in people. Sorry. My fate and that of my loved ones are in the hands of White women, and whether or not they wholeheartedly and enthusiastically reject Trumpism. My destiny and that of my kids is in the hands of Black men and if they vote in the midterm elections and in 2024, like they vote for their choice in the March Madness NCAA Tournament.

Oh, boy. God help us.

I’ve come to the conclusion that right wing White America doesn't have the heart or brains to allow America to remain a fragile example of democracy. Too many would rather have King Trump or Emperor Putin than President Harris. Sadly, the White Liberals and Progressives won’t fight hard enough against their Conservative Fathers, Brothers, and Husbands. The result will be a nation torn with violence and bloodshed.

To complicate matters, Black folks are already doing one hell of a job killing each other right now. Chi-raq, Philly, LA, the Big Apple, go down the list. We kill each other at a rate the Proud Boys, the 3%s’ and the Oath Keepers envy. But if Trumpism triumphs and angry White America declares “OPEN SEASON” on Black folks, we’re going to have more hell on our hands than a little bit.

In response to this hate-filled situation, I believe the best move is to prevent the bloodshed by negotiation and compromise, i.e., house negro accommodations.

Give them a few states, WASP homelands - as to release the pressure. Or, as Black folks, we leave, get the hell out. Make my reparation a million dollars and a ticket to anywhere on the globe. Look, I just don’t see the vast majority of White folks ever doing more than tolerating Americans of color. To some significant level, they don’t want Dr. King’s Dream to be the world they live in, and there’s no law, no guilt nor shame which will change their hearts and minds. They will continue to try to make our day-to-day existence a living hell via individual and institutional racism and discrimination. It’s just how they conduct business.

That’s where I sit and stand as of right here and now.

I truthfully believe the concept of America, “out of many come one,” is a beautiful idea; I just don’t believe humans are capable of it at this point in our existence. We’re far too small and simple-minded. We are still, in the 21st century, entrenched in Stone Age tribalism, and the notion that “all that glitters is gold.” In our world today, as yesterday - God is money, money is God, and rich people are better than poor people. We believe and practice this mindset: Everyday folks allow unbridled, cutthroat capitalism to rule the day just by not forming and joining labor unions. We won’t do it because we’re under-educated and don’t grasp the simplicity of a complicated issue - biblical greed, the haves n’ have-nots baby.

These immature and childish perspectives are what you get when you have an under-educated population - by design! “By design” I scream!

We as a people, as a nation, as a world aren’t intellectually and academically curious. Instead, we’re preoccupied with the mundane BS, as the ruling class wishes. This allows for the conditions in which we and our children live. If we were better educated, thus more informed, we might participate more in the matters that matter, cast an informed and intelligent vote, and not be so very preoccupied with instantly depreciating material wealth. We’d be a different and better country and world.

So until a higher percentage of the US population becomes enlightened… here we sit atop a ticking bomb.

I now know enough to know that I don’t know, thus I’m not holding my breath waiting for the world to change. But I’m going to try to light my fire and let it shine, let it shine… let the blankety-blank shine!
